Sem recently joined Connect from Notting Hill Genesis, one of the largest housing associations in the UK with over 60,000 homes under management. During her six years at Genesis, Sem worked with the CEO on the association’s sector-wide thought leadership and parliamentary engagement on the investment in the Private Rented Sector, undertaking research for select committees and the Montague Review of barriers to institutional investment in the private rented sector.

Outside Connect, Sem is a councillor and Mayoral Advisor, holding the cabinet portfolio for Private Rented Sector (PRS) and Affordability. She leads the borough’s work on licensing, affordability and development of enforcement standards for Hackney’s 34,000 diverse PRS households. Reporting to the directly elected Mayor, Sem has led on the borough’s lobbying of ministers and its contribution to the first Rugg review.

Sem is member co-chair of the East London Housing Partnership (ELHP). Her other professional experience includes work in the youth and voluntary sectors at The Scout Association and international development charity VSO.
