“Later Life Ambitions welcomes the commitment shown by government to readdress the underfunding of social care, however we believe that these proposals will leave older people worse off.
Working pensioners will be targeted through the Social Care Levy. In addition to having the triple lock on pensions removed, they will also still face substantial costs for the social care that they will need later in life.
The cap on social care costs will do little to protect pensioners and many will still be forced to sell their home to afford the care. This cap also only applies to “personal care” and therefore ignores many of the other essential residential costs that older people need and deserve to ensure they are in appropriate housing.
These measures do nothing to improve the quality of social care, and many older people will have to continue to rely on unpaid family carers”
